California Gov. Gavin Newsom expressed optimism on Wednesday over the state's fight against the coronavirus and the wildfires burning across the state. "The wind conditions have been, relatively speaking, more favorable in the last week or so," Newsom said, referring to the ongoing fight against multiple conflagrations burning in Norther and Southern California. "We are making some real progress." Newsom still reiterated the severity of the wildfires this year, comparing the 3.4 million acres that have burned this year in California to the 152,000 acres burned by this time in 2019. Newsom also addressed the state's ongoing fight to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. "We are turning the corner and suppressing this latest increase in the case growth rate of COVID-19," he said.
