The White House on Wednesday hailed President Donald Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nomination as a "hard-earned and well-deserved honor." Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany made the comments at the White House briefing, hours after Trump was nominated by a far-right Norwegian lawmaker. The member of the Norwegian Parliament for the far-right Progress Party says Trump should be considered because of his work towards a peace agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. Last month, the U-A-E and Israel agreed to a historic deal normalizing relations and are scheduled to sign it at a White House ceremony on September 15th. The nomination comes from the same Norwegian lawmaker who nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 for efforts to bring reconciliation between North and South Korea. McEnany also took questions about a new book by journalist Bob Woodward, who says Trump deliberately minimized the danger of COVID to the American people in the early months of the global pandemic. McEnany told reporters the president's words to the public were designed to express confidence and calm at a time of insurmountable challenges. “The president has never lied to the American public on COVID. The president was expressing calm and his actions reflect that," McEnany said. McEnany took questions about the book during a briefing at the White House on Wednesday. She said his actions reflect that he took COVID-19 seriously.
