New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says he's reached a deal with the teachers’ unions to delay the start of the school year. Here, he describes a Sept. 21 start to "blended learning" in New York City schools. The city originally planned to reopen on Sept. 10. The additional days will give teachers and administrative staff more time to make buildings safe during the coronavirus outbreak. Remote learning for all students will begin Sept. 16. New York City will then offer families online classrooms or in-person learning on Sept. 21. Teachers will report as scheduled on Sept. 8, de Blasio said Tuesday at a press conference.
