Gov. Gavin Newsom said California has signed a contract with an East Coast medical diagnostics company to more than double the number of COVID-19 tests that can be processed in the state. Under this plan, capacity will be expanded to roughly a quarter-million tests per day while lowering costs and providing testing results within two days. Processing times at private and public testing labs are currently an average of five to seven days.
