President Donald Trump sought to quell reports of a rift between himself and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease specialist, stating again Wednesday that he has "a very good relationship" with Fauci. Speaking to reporters as he departed for an event on infrastructure in Atlanta, Trump insisted "We're all in the same team." "We want to get rid of this mess that China sent us. So everybody's working on the same line and we're doing very well," he said. The president also looked to distance himself from an op-ed written by his trade adviser, Peter Navarro in USA Today, in which Navarro says Fauci has "been wrong about everything" he has interacted with him on. Asked if Navarro went rogue in writing the piece, Trump said "he made a statement representing himself. He shouldn't be doing that." Despite a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, Trump painted a rosy picture of the state of the nation, saying "the markets are very good. The country is doing well. Jobs are growing fast." He said schools "will be open and they'll be open, I think, relevantly on time, hopefully perfectly on time, most places."
