In a story July 18 about divers finding a sunken U.S. Navy ship off Maine coast, The Associated Press, relying on information provided by the Navy, erroneously reported the last U.S. warship to be sunk by a German submarine in World War II. It was the USS Frederick C. Davis, not the USS Eagle PE-56. CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (AP) — A private dive team has located one of the last U.S. Navy warships to be sunk by a German submarine in World War II, just a few miles (kilometers) off the coast of Maine.
