Clashes broke out in Libya's al-Khella area, south of the capital Tripoli, on Saturday, April 20, as forces allied to the internationally-recognized administration of Libya pushed back against eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar's offensive. The fighting, including shelling from artillery fire, follows the revelation Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone to Khalifa Haftar, the leader of the militant group known as the Libyan National Army. The White House announced Friday that President Trump telephoned Haftar earlier in the week and commended him on what he said was Haftar's "significant role in fighting terrorism and securing Libya's oil resources." The Trump administration did not say why it waited several days to announce the call. https://www.voanews.com/a/more-fighting-in-libya-near-the-capital-tripoli/4884388.html
